The state of Indiana requires that all businesses register with the Secretary of State. Business owners can register their business online through the Indiana Business Portal or by mail by submitting the appropriate forms and fees to the Secretary of State’s office.

Starting a limited liability company (LLC) costs about $90 for filing Articles of Organization with the Secretary of State. If you’re going the route of a sole proprietorship or partnership, obtaining a local business license will likely cost around $50. Or if you plan to incorporate, the cost is $90 for Articles of Incorporation and another $50 for the local business license.
