After Mindy discovered ZenMaid and Debbie Sardone’s course, her maid service revenue tripled (and then some.) This began the first of many six-figure years.
Mindy continuously pushes past her comfort zone and keeps her business on track to earn over $200k annually. Not only that, Mindy now has the systems and processes in place to spend quality time with her children and still enjoy her business — and, of course, her life.
Mindy DeShield’s cleaning business journey — hardships and successes
Mindy was raised in Murray, KY by her mother, who was a house cleaner. Sadly, her father passed away from cancer when she was 11. This tragic event later prompted her to join the organization “Cleaning for a Reason”— a nonprofit that provides free home cleanings for patients battling cancer.
Cleaning for a Reason serves individuals and families in the U.S. and Canada. In recent years, they’ve received millions of dollars in donations, served tens of thousands of cancer patients, and worked with numerous maid services to provide quality care to those who are battling cancer.
Mindy started cleaning houses as a side business when she was sixteen. In 2009, she attended Murray State University, where she received a BS degree in Agriculture Business. After her college days, she got married, worked in retail, was employed by a transcription company, and cleaned on the side. Once they had their first child, Mindy and her husband made the decision that Mindy would clean houses part-time so she could still stay at home with her baby. Part-time cleaning then turned into full-time, and the referrals kept coming in. So, in October 2015, she decided to turn her ‘side cleaning gig’ into a full-blown business.
The challenges in her maid service led her to cleaning experts who could help
Despite earning her business degree, she was “flying by the seat of her pants” with no systems or processes in place. Although she was no longer cleaning homes solo, Mindy was still cleaning full time. She was a full-time cleaner, business owner, and mother. She was wearing several hats, and the weight of responsibility was crushing her. Her company, Green Cleaning KY, wasn’t really a business to her anymore — it was a stressful job that took away from her precious time with her family.
“As I hired more employees, I grew tired and confused, making paper schedules with excel every month. I wasn’t aware of it at the time, but I was worried about little things within the business that weren’t necessary for me to do. In hindsight, it seems obvious, but at the time, I didn’t even realize it!”
In a stroke of luck, an acquaintance of Mindy’s who owned a commercial cleaning business in another city mentioned the name Debbie Sardone to her. After a quick scan of Debbie’s website Mindy was hooked. She knew that she needed to take Debbie’s course. What Mindy loved about Debbie was that she immediately connected with her over the phone, and they were able to chat about all things cleaning and scheduled a consultation.
“There’s no way I’d be where I’m at without Cleaning Business Fundamentals. CBF gave me direction; it taught me how to get out of being the cleaner, and actually running my business. It gave me the confidence to charge what I’m worth and how to market! Obviously, my business is not perfect, and I’m still implementing changes taught in CBF, but at least now I have direction.”
How Mindy found ZenMaid and jumped onboard
After Mindy started her Cleaning Business Fundamentals Course, she connected with like-minded cleaning business owners who introduced her to ZenMaid. She realized she needed ZenMaid after she hired more employees and couldn’t handle the scheduling by herself. Running a cleaning company is tough at times—and Mindy knew she needed help if she wanted to provide high-quality service and scale her business.
She started the CBF course in May of 2017 and began her journey with ZenMaid in December of that same year. Mindy wasn’t messing around; she had goals, and she was willing to do what it took to achieve them. ZenMaid helped her manage her business’s growth.
“It’s making everything less overwhelming and sustainable! ZenMaid made it super easy to get started by uploading my contacts for me, and I have an automated schedule that I don’t have to worry about. It also solves the problem of a client forgetting we’re coming with the auto text and emails.”
The results she sees in her cleaning business today
“I started my cleaning business to be able to stay at home one day and provide enough income, so we weren’t struggling. In that time, I’m now making what I was when I was working full-time for someone else. We have 50 or so clients doing $100,000 or more in sales. My short-term goal is to have 100 clients, get an office and office staff, and be able to take a VACATION! I’d like to be the biggest cleaning business in our area. The long-term goal is 300 clients!”
After Mindy learned valuable information from Debbie’s course and started using Zenmaid’s software, she saw massive improvements in her business. Her vision for the future of her family and company is to build a thriving business that she can sell for a profit or pass down to her children. In her opinion, none of this would be possible without the help and expertise of Debbie and ZenMaid.
